Day 1: Delhi
Begin your tour
Arrive into Delhi
Welcome to Vardhman's "Trans Himalayan Jeep Safari Ladakh"!
On arrival in Delhi, you will be met and transferred by Vardhman's
representative to your hotel. Relax for a while and later proceed
on a city tour of New Delhi.
Visit Qutab Minar, Humayun's tomb, Lakshminarayan Temple, a modern
Hindu Temple, Parliament House, Government Secretarial Building and
Connaught place, the shopping centre of New Delhi.
Visit Red Fort, built in 1648 by Mughal Emperor Shahjehan, Jama Masjid,
one of the largest Mosque of India, Raj Ghat and Shanti Vana, the
cremation sites of Mahatama Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. Also drive
past Chandni Chowk, shopping centre of Old Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi - Leh
After breakfast transfer to Delhi airport to board flight for
Leh. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel by
our representative. Complete day for the acclimatization at 3,500mts
above sea level. In the evening take a short walk around Leh bazaar
at your own.

Day 3: Leh
Full day of sightseeing of Takthok cave (8 AD), Chemday from
the 6th century, and Stakna monasteries.
Takthok Monastery: Situated about 46kms from the town of Leh, in
a small village called Sakti. Takthok means 'rock-roof' and the
monastery is so called as the roof as well as walls of the monastery
are made up of rock. Also known as the Old Order Takthok
belongs to the Nying-ma-pa sect of Buddhism. About 55 lamas reside
in the Takthok Monastery.
Stakna Gompa: Situated on the right bank of the Indus River, at
a distance of approximately 25 km from the town of Leh. The name,
'Stakna' literally means 'tiger's nose'. The monastery was so named
because it was built on a hill, which is shaped just like a tiger's
nose. Stakna Monastery of Leh Ladakh owes its inception to Chosje
Jamyang Palkar, the great scholar saint of Bhutan. It formed a part
of the many religious estates offered by the Dharmaraja Jamyang
Namgial to the saint, around 1580 AD.

Day 4: Leh
Full day excursion to the famous monasteries, it is interesting
to visit early in the morning to enjoy the praying ceremony at Thiksey
monastery. Continue drive to Hemis monastery which is one of the
most famous of the Ladakh region. On the way back visit to Shey
Palace.
Hemis Gompa: Ladakh's largest monastery. It contains a number of
gold statues and Stupas decorated with precious stones and a superb
collection of Thankas, including one that is the largest in existence.
Hemis gompa is believed to have been established in 1630 by Lama
Tagstang Raspa and built by Palden Sara under the patronage of King
Sengge Namgyal on a site previously sanctified by the construction
of a cave hermitage dating from the 12th century. This monastery
is the oldest one in the area belonging to the Kargyu school. The
Gompa is a unique example of a monastic complex of this period which
manifests in its structure the geomantic principles which underlie
religious constructions of this type.
Shey Palace And Gompa : Shey palace with its remarkable statue of
Buddha and panoramic views of Indus valley. Situated on a hillock
15 Kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal
family. According to tradition, it was the seat of power of the
pre-Tibetan kinds. A 7.5 mts high copper statue of Buddha, plated
with gold and the largest of its kind, is installed here.
Thiksey Gompa : 19 Kms from Leh, spectacularly sited, Thiksey is
one of the largest and architecturally most impressive Gompas. There
are several temples in this Gompas, containing images, stupas and
wall paintings of Buddha, which are exquisite.

Day 5: Leh-Panamic
On the day 5 of your tour leave Leh in the morning for 145 kmdrive
through Gangles village (4200m) - the highest village in the Leh
valley. The road then rises to reach Khardong La (5,600m), the world's
highest motorable road. Bird's eye view can be had of Leh town.
Another 35km drive takes us to Khalsar at Shyok valley, where the
scenery is enchanting all around. The road after crossing Khalsar
Bridge at Shyok river enters the Nubra valley and then proceeds
along the Nubra river. Stay overnight in a camp near the Hot Springs.

Day 6: Panamic-Ansa-Panamic
Morning drive to Ansa monastery on a hilltop across the Nubra
river in the middle of the valley, drive for 7 km and then walk
for about half-hour to arrive. Visit Panamic village considered
to be the largest camping ground for caravans in the Nubra valley.
Visit the hot spring of Panamic, which is known for curing skin
disease and rheumatism. Enjoy 2-3 hr camel ride on double humped
Bactrian camel at Panamic.

Day 7: Panamic-Kyagar-Samstanling-Sumur-Deskit
This morning after drive to Deskit. Enroute visit Samstanling
monastery, old castle and temple of Kyagar. Also visit Sumur monastery
which is 265 years old. Driving for another 30 km takes us to Khalsar
Bridge. Deskit can be approached by driving parallel to the Shyok
river for 20 km. Stay overnight in a camp.

Day 8: Deskit - Hunder - Deskit
Deskit is the headquarters of the present administrative setup
of the Nubra valley it is famous for its 515 years old Buddhist
monastery, situated on the top of a hill, facing the entire valley;
the breathtaking view from the top of almost the entire valley is
a lifetime experience, visit Hunder and its temple at a distance
of 5 km from Deskit.

Day 9: Deskit - Leh
On the day 9 of your tour drive back to Leh. Reach by the evening
and check into your hotel for an overnight rest.

Day 10: Leh
Morning after breakfast proceed for sightseeing tour of Phiyang,
Spituk and Stok monastery.
Phiyang Gompa : 17 Kms from Leh on the Leh-Kargil road, it looks
like a huge palace from afar, build by Tashi Namgyal in the later
half of the 16th century AD, it belongs to the Red Cap sect of Buddhists.
Hundreds of icon of Buddha and other gods are kept on wooden shelves.
Spituk Monastery: The Spituk Monastery of Ladakh is situated at
a distance of approximately 8 km from the town of Leh. Towering
over a conical, the 3-chapel monastery dates back to the 11th century,
when it was founded century by Od-de, the elder brother of Lha Lama
Changchub Od. He was the one to introduce a monastic community here.
When a translator, Rinchen Zangpo, came to this place, he said that
an exemplary religious community would develop there. This statement
led to the naming of the monastery as Spituk, meaning Exemplary.
Stok Monastery: The Palace of the banished royal family, Stok has
a museum which displays fabulous period costumes and jewellery of
the royalty along with exquisite Thankas representing the life style
of Sakya Muni. Interesting historical objects like coins, armour,
weapons, precious jade and porcelain too can be seen here.

Day 11: Leh-Delhi
In the morning transfer to Leh aiport to catch flight for Delhi.
On arrival at Delhi domestic airport transfer to Delhi International
airport (through Shuttle services available free of cost at the
airport) to board the flight for your onward journey to back home
with sweet and pleasant memories of your "Trans Himalayan Jeep
Safari Ladakh" escorted by Vardhman Vacations.
